Tomorrow I head to Des Moines for this coming weekend’s GalaxyCon. It will be my first time tabling at an artist alley at a GalaxyCon (B27), so no idea what to expect. Looking at the other types of folks in the artist alley, the range of work is a giant mixed bag of stuff.

If you are in town, come stop by and say hello. I furiously finished up a bunch of new art that I will have available. The first are two Star Wars themed kintsugi pieces. A bowl and a plate broke in our house perfectly in half, so rather than just reassemble them, I decided to make something out of them. I like the results, but the bowl was a pain in the ass to paint.

The other pieces I furiously got finished was another set of 4x6 postcards. Like the previous set I worked on, these were done mostly with watercolor paint and sumi ink. I also leveraged some acrylic paint for effects that came out nicely.

The one thing I wasn’t a fan of was the rag paper. The texture was a little too smooth for my preference and a little too moisture hungry. I prefer something a little less thirsty overall to work with.

I went with the movie Kingdom of Heaven this time for my theme. I had originally planned on doing a series for Night of the Hunter, but I have a book on the making of this movie on my shelf that I was leafing through one night, which turned into me watching the director’s cut again. The movie is a strong choice for the limited palette approach I take for these postcards.

All these pieces and more I will have with me at the show this weekend. They and a bunch of other pieces I have never made available before are also available on my shop now. Nothing ordered online will ship until after the 16th of September.

Weekly Roundup

Poetry, an event I can’t attend, minority report, and David Dastmalchian is box office gold.

My Work

Here is a rough draft of one of the poems I am trying out for the Gazetteer. I dunno if anyone has tried making a book of poetry an integral part of a game, but I sure as hell going to try.

The Green Sea

Light dances on leaves
An endless sea stretches on
Boughs bending with winds
I am overwhelmed. Frightened.
Is there no end to all this?
Trees tower above
Towns wander the green darkness
Ancient menace looms
Horrors stalk the branches
Consuming my dreams of peace.

Gaming

I just learned about this recently and can’t attend with my being in Des Moines, but this weekend there is a small game con in Chicago. Indie City Games Showcase is taking place at the Ravenswood Event Center. It’s a nice venue. You should go. Link

Technology

So, I can’t even explain how furious and terrifying this is. I suspected this was happening, but knowing is an entirely different thing. DHS working with local PDs to arrest you for pre-crime. Link

Creativity

I am so excited.
