I’m not a witch, I’m your wife. The spotlight of issue 43 of Dragon is the witch NPC class, so of course the cover it a crone. I’m not a huge fan of it, but it isn’t bad. I think it does what it is supposed to, but just doesn’t inspire me at all. To each their own, as always.

So the witch NPC class. Or rather a revised/new version of the one outlined in issue #20. Seriously, why did anyone thing these were a good idea? Everything else in the damn game is a monster with Hit Dice and whatnot. Yet here we are again, creating a class only the GM can “play” for whatever reason, and just incase you weren’t sure, players NO TOUCHING!

I mean, look at this shit. Could they stretch more to get titles together for these levels? Sapphire Witch? Just make a couple of these for each group of levels outlined in the books (Basic, Expert, etc.) and call it a day. Oh Dragon, you are adorable.

One of my favorite bits to explore to explore in these old issues are the Sage Advice column. If you are old like me you remember the world before the blogs, forums, and Twitter and this was one of two ways to get answers to your stupid questions. The other was to ask the local grognard, who was usually wrong (or is it whom).
That being said, this answer is nonsense. 10 yards outside and 10 feet inside? WTF kinda math is that?

Man, I remember instituting this policy in my campaign. Keep your bullshit character at home. If you are going to play in my game, you gotta make a new character.
This next section is amazing. Rating your DM. I want to make all the game designers I know have their regular game groups take this survey. It is an amazing slice of gaming thinking at the time. Different from how I view games today, but not so different that it is unfamiliar.

And of course in this era you can’t have an issue of Dragon without Uncle Gary losing his shit about something. Oh Uncle Gary...
